Assessment: On ride.

1. What is your reaction:

A high functioning ride that is well thought out and put together from the outstanding music to the choreographed lighting. A very fun and amusing ride with witty banter and reasonably nice graphics and mechanics. A bit cheesy but that's what keeps the ride light-hearted and amusing. The effects choreographed nicely with the sound and lighting. The contrast of mechanical people to the digital representations of them isn't too jarring and works well for the places its put in.

2. What connections did you make with the work viewed?

It was based on different aspects of the Pirates world but still was its own story while using the pre-existing characters. It worked well enough and was easy to follow along with, even in a different language. The took bits and pieces of the films and media already made and used them to piece together a new yet familiar story.

3. What changes would you make to adapt this work to another medium? what changes would you make and what media would you use?

I would convert this ride to a 4D experience similar to the harry potter ride at universal studios. While using the pre-existing layout and story given by this ride I would replace most if not all of the mechanical people with screens, creating a virtual reality world where you are being moved through it. Using just the digital aspects I could better tell the story and not worry too much about the problems of overlapping ride mechanics which were seen in the original ride. Creating more staged effects would also help to engage the audience more creating heat from the explosions and mist of water to really seal the deal on the experience while keeping the ride more fast paced so the audience is fully engaged in the ride.
